Dr. Usha Rajamma, Senior Scientist at the Inter-University Centre for Biomedical Research and Super Speciality Hospital (IUCBR & SSH), Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Neurosciences (IAN). This prestigious recognition honours her outstanding contributions to neuroscience research.
The announcement was made during the General Body Meeting of the Academy held on October 31, 2025, at the Uday Samudra Leisure Beach Hotel, Kovalam, as part of the 43rd Annual Meeting of the IAN. Dr. Rajamma is among only three scientists across India to be conferred with this distinguished fellowship this year.
The IAN Fellowship is one of the highest honours bestowed by the Academy, granted to eminent scientists who have demonstrated excellence and made sustained contributions to the advancement of neuroscience.
To be considered for this honor, candidates must be nominated and supported by current Fellows of the Academy. Eligibility for the fellowship is limited to life members of the Indian Academy of Neurosciences (IAN) who have a minimum of ten years of research experience in neuroscience.
Dr. Rajamma’s election to the Fellowship underscores her significant research achievements and her commitment to advancing knowledge in the field of neuroscience, particularly in understanding neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in the Indian population.
Her recognition marks another milestone for Mahatma Gandhi University, highlighting its growing prominence in cutting-edge biomedical and neuroscience research.
