IUCBR & SSH Celebrates 10th Foundation Day and Hosts Seminar on Recent Trends in Biomedical Research

The Inter University Centre for Biomedical Research and Super Speciality Hospital (IUCBR & SSH), under Mahatma Gandhi University, celebrated its 10th Foundation Day with great enthusiasm and academic vigor on 28th June 2025. The milestone was marked by a One-Day Seminar on Recent Trends in Biomedical Research, bringing together eminent scientists, clinicians, and young researchers from across the state.

The function was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (in-charge) Prof. (Dr.) Jayachandran K, who praised the Centre’s decade-long contribution to translational biomedical research and its role in bridging basic science and clinical application.

Dr. Beena V, Head of the Department of Neurology, Government Medical College, Kottayam, graced the event as Chief Guest and delivered a compelling keynote address. Her participation, confirmed on short notice, added significant value to the event.

Dr. Goutam Chandra, Convener of the program, delivered the Welcome Address, while Dr. E.K. Radhakrishnan, Director of IUCBR & SSH, gave the Presidential Address, reflecting on the Centre’s journey, achievements, and future vision. Mr. Nishad Keethedeth, Secretary of the Wordsworth Society, delivered the Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the contributions of dignitaries, speakers, and participants.

The seminar featured insightful scientific talks by leading experts, including:

  • Dr. Smitha V B, Professor, School of Biosciences, Mahatma Gandhi University

  • Dr. Unnikrishnan Sivan, Associate Professor, KUFOS

  • Dr. Senthilkumar Muthusamy, TIMed, SCTIMST

The academic segment of the day included oral and poster presentations by young researchers, showcasing cutting-edge work in biomedical sciences. A total of 11 oral and 10 poster presentations were held, providing a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange and innovation.

The Best Oral Presentation Award was conferred on Ms. Swapna K K from NIMHANS, Bangalore, while Mr. Vipin Gopinath from Malabar Cancer Centre, Kannur, received the Best Poster Presentation Award.

The 10th Foundation Day celebrations served as a testament to IUCBR & SSH’s ongoing commitment to excellence in biomedical research, innovation, and academic leadership.
